In the early 1990's Vladek was a guest at the following two conventions.
|
26th September 1992 James Bond 30th Anniversary Party Pinewood Studios
26-27th May 1990 Fanderson '90 The Mount Royal Hotel, London | Vladek was also meant to participate in a second convention for Fanderson: 'Project Straker' - but an eye infection meant he could not attend. |

In the late eighties, Vladek worked with Dulwich Community Radio, [the forerunner for South Cleveland Hospital Radio] on a series of light hearted voluntary shows called "Media Matters." Programmes were a cross between Desert Island Discs and Does the Team Think. Guests on the programmes would be Producers, Actors & Agents etc and included a 3-5 minute session where the participants could "plug" their relevant shows/books/appearances etc - [these parts of the programmes were kept short so as not to alienate the listeners] and the guests would act as co-presenters interviewing each other on many topics in order to provide a humorous take on life.
Although the programmes were presented live, Vladek wanted to be sure he was in a safe environment in a non-threatening atmosphere where things could be tried out, without any threats of commercialism hanging in the air, and agreed to participate only if the programmes could be pre-recorded. In fact, when Vladek appeared for the first taping in 1987/88 at Dulwich, he had injured his hand [saying that he had "attempted a self crucifixion"] by falling on a nail earlier in the day; the crew took him to Dulwich Hospital. After the first programme was taped, Vladek was happy with the format and agreed to do them live after that, with his participation coming via a live link from a studio in London. Vladek was also happy to participate in promotional activities and had looked into making a radio drama of his theatre work in "The Eagle and The Serpent" but unfortunately this did not happen.

My thanks here to Alex Lewczuk who provided this information, Alex was one of the participants and presenters on the shows, and being Polish by birth himself worked closely with Vladek, noting that Vladek was very much a core part of the team and would still be a regular participant if he were still here today. With Alex's help, it is hoped to eventually link to some of these shows once the links are established, so please bear with us.

In 1991 Vladek made a recording of his own song "I am a Dracula." This production tells the story of Dracula living in a shabby basement room in South Kensington, London. The Count is telling his woes to an observer, who by the end of the song, has naturally become Dracula's latest meal! |
